Name: Sigurd Leifr Thomassen (Kongeriket Norge)

Background: He came into existence in 872 AD., yet only became truly independent in 1905. Liefr was his name back when he was a Viking. Norway was a talented sailor and a name to be feared way back when (not that his love for sailing has wavered) and he was aggressive and violent for sport. It was the most thrilling time of his life, yet he regrets the way he terrorised innocent people. However, he misses the days of paganism, and huge bonfires and ceremonies of dancing and drinking and eating with Denmark and Sweden.
As Christianity became more prominent in Scandinavia, Norway was slow to move into a new era. He didn’t want to let go of his history and culture that he had so long known, and he especially didn’t want to stop practicing magic and witchcraft. However, he was finally persuaded by other European nations, and changed his name to a more proper, Christian one. He languished in the new life he had, spending most of his days knelt down in prayer or reading religious texts, something a former-Viking wasn’t accustomed to.
At the time of the Kalmar Union, Norway changed his name to Sigurd, and it has since stayed the same. While he felt oppressed in the Union, he did love being able to care for Iceland, and see the other Nordics daily. When the Union began falling apart, things were difficult for Norway, and when Sweden took him away from Iceland and Denmark, he was devastated, and he still hasn’t fully forgiven Denmark or Sweden for pawning him off like property during the Kalmar Union and the Napoleonic War.
For a long time, Norway suffered as a poor, working-class nation, at which point he was thin, frail, and constantly sick. He was bitter, mean, and ill-tempered towards most other nations, especially the other Nordics, up until Norway struck oil in the mid 1900s, at which point he became more even-tempered, and became a stronger and resource-rich country.
Nowadays, Norway spends most of his time working on human rights and environmental issues, and meeting with other nations around the world. He is guilty of having a lot of leisure time, which he spends fishing, sailing, skiing, or visiting with the other Nords over coffee.
Brief Roleplay introduction: The cool, still air was almost suffocating as Sigurd slowly made his way to his chambers. It was a stark contrast to the hot, stuffy atmosphere of the royal court room from where he had just come, and where he had been told the news: his brother was alive. It was hard to hold back the tears of relief and joy when he had been informed via Danish correspondence that Iceland was prospering more than he ever had. Normally any letters from Denmark were kept from Sigurd, and hidden from his eyes, should they upset him and throw him into one of his angered depressions.
But this—this one—he was allowed to see, and it seemed to be all that it took to break him from his long-lasting, overwhelming bout of isolation and anger. Had he previously felt bitter or upset, Norway couldn’t feel it now. It was one step closer to being reunited with the ones he loved, and that would be his gateway to freedom. It was so close, so tantalising, like sweet honey and cherry wine on a hot day. He could practically feel the weight of being owned lifting from his shoulders, the idea of being his own country almost unreal, like a teasing impossibility that had somehow landed within his reach.
